A Classic Holiday Villa....Beside Loch Goil....by the water's edge

A fabulous Victorian House by the Shores of Loch Goil, Argyll packed with rustic charm. Built in the 1890's in the days when the only access to Carrick Castle was via the sea you can still get a sense of the remote tranquilty that isolation must have brought.

However easy day trips are available by car to Dunoon the stunning Glen Coe, Oban - the gateway to the Isles, the architecturally distinguished town of Inveraray with its historic museum jail and fairytale castle, and the lovely fishing harbours of Tarbert and Crinan. Rhumhor's primary appeal is the peace and beauty the area offers, but there is also more than enough in the local area to keep an active family busy during their holiday. Unusual modifications were made in the 1920s by architect Magnus Duncan, including two oriole/turret windows in the bedrooms at the rear further adding to the quirky character of the property. Surprisingly enough for such a remote seeming area there is also a golf course, swimming pool, ice skating, pony trekking, boat hire, fishing tackle hire/purchase, indoor bowling, curling (in season), restaurants and pubs all within the glen and less than 15 minutes in the car.

Why visit Argyll and Cowal?

If you enjoy beautiful scenery, seabirds, seals and boats and if you love the tranquility - without the long trek to the far North West of Scotland...Rhumhor by Loch Goil, Argyll is perfect for your needs. Set directly on the shore of one of the UK's most picturesque sea Lochs, Rhumhor commands panoramic views up and down Loch Goil. Holiday Takers can even bring their own boat and moor in the Loch.

Loch Goil abounds in wildlife. Seagulls, Cormorants, Gannets, Eider Ducks and Swans are frequent passers-by. During the long summer evenings the holiday taker oftens enjoys the company of a Seal or two, curious to see what is going on.

Well worth a visit during your stay at Rhumhor Villa and and easy 30 minutes drive is the lovely town of Inveraray (Inbhir Aora in Gaelic) a former royal burgh in Argyll and Bute, located on the western shore of Loch Fyne near its head. One time traditional county town of Argyll and ancestral home to the Duke of Argyll, who founded the town in 1745, alongside his new home, Inveraray Castle. Its distinctive white buildings on the loch shore make it very photogenic and it is a very popular tourist destination, with a number of attractions in addition to the castle. The Georgian Inveraray Jail in the burgh is now a museum. Other attractions include the Argyll Folk Museum at Auchindrain. The Celtic Inveraray Cross can also been seen in the town. The Arctic Penguin ship Maritime Museum is moored at the pier, along with the Clyde puffer VIC 72, renamed Eilean Eisdeal.

Satisfied Customers

We've had just the most Idyllic time. The weather was kind and we've done lots of things walking in the hills, eating scones, watching Oyster catchers making a dive and eating marshmallows. We were also lucky to see some real pipers. Thankyou for letting us stay at your Loch-side home.
