Is the long journey from the south the only issue holding you back from a holiday on the Isle of Mull?

Option 1 - by Plane

Air

There are 2 airports serving the Strathclyde / Ayshire region, providing easy car access to Oban for the Calmac ferry to Mull in less than 2 hours

Option 2 - by Rail

 

Raill

Oban Rail Station

Is served by regular direct train services from Glasgow Queen Street rail station

Glasgow Queen street and Glasgow Central Station

are served by direct train services from most major areas on England and Wales

1. There are regular (almost every hour) day trains between London Euston and Glasgow Central between 0700 and 1800 hours (4/5 hours approx journey time)

Also....a daily direct sleeper service operated by Scotrail from London Euston departing (approx 2345 hours) calling at intermediate stations via Watford, Birmingham, Crewe. Preston delivering you "bright and breezy" in Glasgow Central at (approx 0715 hours) and a corresponding return service departing from Glasgow Central (approx 2340 hours) arriving London Euston at (approx 0700 hours).

2. There is also a regular service operated by GNER from London Kings Cross calling at intermediate stations via Huntingdon, Peterborough, Doncaster, York, Newcastle to Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street (5/6 hours approx journey time)

Caledonian MacBrayne Ferries www.calmac.co.uk connect the Isle of Mull to the UK mainland by passenger / car ferry from Oban and Lochaline (Ardnamurchan peninsula)

1. From Oban

2. From Lochaline (Ardnamuchan Peninsula) to Finnish (Isle of Mull)

The regular ferry service from Lochaline (Ardnamurchan Peninsula) to Finnish (Isle of Mull) operates on a 7 days a week daily basis throughout the year between 0700 and 1800 and is again run by www.calmac.co.uk

Mull is served by two public bus companies Bowman's Tel: 01680 812313 and R.N. Carmichael Tel: 01688 302230. Please note that there is no longer a Royal Mail Postbus service on the island.

 

Driving on the Isle of Mull

 

The roads on the Isle of Mull are a pleasure to drive on, wide and empty with fantastic views, Access Glen Aros and Crannich Farm from Finnish or craignure (where the calmac ferries arrive) by taking just one road the A848 (signposted Salen & Tobermory) an easy 15 miles of wonderful Sea views, Mountains and Landscapes. after passing through the nearest local village of Salen you arrive at Glen Aros (maximum 30 minutes drive)
