Journey by train or plane to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs

Is the long journey from the south the only issue holding you back from a holiday in the Loch Lomond forest park region?

If this is the case there are many interesting travel options, should you really want to avoid the long drive from the South.

Option 1 - by Rail

Rail

Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations are served by direct Anglo / Scottish train services.

1. There are regular (almost every hour) day trains between London Euston and Glasgow Central between 0700 and 1800 hours (4/5 hours approx journey time)

Also....a daily direct sleeper service operated by Scotrail from London Euston departing (approx 2345 hours) calling at intermediate stations via Watford, Birmingham, Crewe. Preston delivering you "bright and breezy" in Glasgow Central at (approx 0715 hours) and a corresponding return service departing from Glasgow Central (approx 2340 hours) arriving London Euston at around (approx 0700 hours).

2. There is also a regular service operated by GNER from London Kings Cross calling at intermediate stations via Huntingdon, Peterborough, Doncaster, York, Newcastle to Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street (5/6 hours approx journey time)

Option 2 - by Air

Roads and Ferries

 

Loch Lomond from Glasgow

(by car)

From Glasgow take the (A82 Fort William) or the M8 motorway west towards Glasgow Airport (Paisley). Then cross the Eskine toll bridge over the Clyde river and head up the A82 passing Dumbarton and then along the banks of Loch Lomond as far as (Midross in Arden) just off the A82, where there is secure car parking for up to 40 cars (Approx journey time 30 mins)

 

Access to Inchmurrin Island is convenient, simple, secure and worry free and most importantly available from the owners (from Midross in Arden) on demand at any time, arrival and departure journeys from this Island are free and just a short ferry crossing. An additional ferry service is also provided (on demand) for all guests...the ferry operates a cost of just £3.00 per head return.

Several jetties are also available for customers who have their own boats. Guests who have their own boats can launch and park securely at the Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway at Balloch Pier. Boat registration can also be done here or by post prior to arrival.
