Journey by train or plane to Loch Ness and the Great Glen

Is the long drive from the south the only issue holding you back from a holiday in the Loch Ness region? There are many exiting and interesting travel options, should you really want to avoid the long drive from the South. Inverness and Aviemore stations are both served by direct Anglo / Scottish train services.

 

Option 1 - by Rail

 

 

1. There is a 6 day weekly direct sleeper service operated by Scotrail from London Euston departing (around 2030) calling at intermediate stations via Watford, Birmingham, Crewe and Edinburgh, delivering you "bright and breezy" in Inverness (approx 20 miles) or Aviemore (approx 35 miles) for around (0800 hours) and a corresponding return evening service departing from Inverness (around 2100 hours) or Aviemore (around 2145 hours) arriving London Euston (around 0800 hours).

2. There is also 6 days direct weekly service operated by GNER from London Kings Cross departing (around 12.00 hours) calling at intermediate stations via, Peterborough, Doncaster, York and Edinburgh arriving Inverness (around 2045 hours) And a corresponding return service departing from Inverness 0830 hours arriving London Kings Cross (around 1600 hours)

Option 2 - by Plane

 

Inverness has an international airport taking regular service flights from most uk airports including

The Road to Loch Ness

From Inverness you can take in breathtaking views of Loch Ness by taking the A82 southbound in the Fort William direction passing through Kirkton, Lochend, Brachla before finally reaching Drumnadrochit. From Drumnadrochit take the scenic A831 Glen Urquhart road through Milton and Balnain reaching Bearnock Country Cottages within a short drive (journey time approx 40 mins)
