This group of Holiday Cottages on the banks of the River Tweed are part of a traditional steading courtyard, in the heart of a working hill farm in the picturesque Tweedsmuir Hills in the Scottish Borders.

With wonderful hill walking and biking, they are ideal for those seeking a comfortable base close to outdoor activities, or a peaceful retreat in a lovely rural setting, and for stalking, shooting and fishing in season. Although apparently remote, Edinburgh is only a scenic hour away and Glasgow is a little further. Converted from original stabling for carriage horses, the holiday cottages have been thoughtfully equipped and furnished with a generous provision of en-suite facilities and can accommodate up to 12 guests in all.

For around 30 years hydro power has provided clean energy for the farm and steading and a computerised 9-pin bowling alley with a spacious entertainment area is available by arrangement (at cost). There is a network of well-established tracks and forest rides throughout the estate’s unspoiled open hills and forests along both sides of the upper reaches of the River Tweed, and most of the farm is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The summit of Broad Law 2,790ft, is a good hike rewarded by panoramic views on a clear day and Hearthstanes is midway along the 121 mile Solway to Forth Cycle ride. Enjoy a wonderfully scenic drive past Tweedsmuir Reservoir to St Mary’s Loch and down to Selkirk, or visit historic Traquair House and Gardens at Dawyk and Kailzie, where there is an osprey watch, from Easter to late August. Shop, pub and restaurant 13 miles.
