Journey by train or plane to Aberdeenshire and Angus

Is the long drive from the south the only issue holding you back from a holiday in Aberdeenshire? There are many exiting and interesting travel options, should you really want to avoid the long drive from the South. Both Aberdeen and the local station at Stonehaven are served by direct Anglo / Scottish trains.

 

Option 1 - by Rail

 

1. There is a 6 day weekly direct sleeper service operated by Scotrail from London Euston departing (around 2030) calling at intermediate stations via Watford, Birmingham, Crewe and Edinburgh, delivering you "bright and breezy" in Stonehaven for around (07.30 hours) and a corresponding return evening service departing from Stonehaven (around 2230 hours) arriving in London Euston (around 0800 hours).

2. There is also a regular daily service operated by GNER between London Kings Cross departing (around 12.00 hours) calling at intermediate stations via, Peterborough, Doncaster, York, Edinburgh, Dundee to Stonehaven.

Option 2 - by Plane

Aberdeen (Dyce) has an international airport taking regular service flights from most uk airports from

London, Manchester, Norwich, Cardiff to Leeds / Bradord, Humberside and East Midlands with (BAA CitiExpress)

Aberdeen airport is seven miles from the city centre on the A96 near Dyce.

Two bus companies operate between the airport and the city centre; First Aberdeen (+44 (0)1224 650 065) and Stagecoach Bluebird (+44 (0)1224 212 266).

The local train station to Aberdeen airport is Dyce is a short taxi journey from the airport. It runs a service to the mainline station in Aberdeen and from there you can catch a train to other destinations across Scotland and the rest of Britain. Rainbow Airport Taxis (+44 (0)1224 725 500/878 787/ 494 949) operate a service from Aberdeen Airport, The approximate fare from airport to the city centre is £14. Wheelchair accessible cars, a meet-and-greet service and executive cars are also available, though need to be booked in advance. The Road to Aberdeenshire and Car Hire

 

Drumtochty Castle Appartments are situated about 5 miles OFF the B974 from Fettercairn.

If approaching From the south ie Perth or Dundee take the main A90 Northbound (Aberdeen direction)

looking for a small village called Luthermuir take a left turning here (signposted B974 Fettercairn and Glensaugh)

Follow this road the B974 for approx 9 miles passing through Fettercairn and when reaching the tiny hamlet of Glensaugh look for a left turning single track road with passing places well signposted for Drumtochty castle, which will then lead you to Drumtochty Castle Appartments
