Journey by train or plane to Argyll and Dunoon Is the long journey from the south the only issue holding you back from a holiday in the Argyll and Loch Lomond region? If this is the case there are many interesting travel options, should you really want to avoid the long drive from the South.
Rail Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations are served by direct Anglo / Scottish train services. 1. There are regular (almost every hour) day trains between London Euston and Glasgow Central between 0700 and 1800 hours (4/5 hours approx journey time) Also....a daily direct sleeper service operated by Scotrail from London Euston departing around (2345 hours) calling at intermediate stations via Watford, Birmingham, Crewe. Preston delivering you "bright and breezy" in Glasgow Central at (approx 0700 hours) and a corresponding return service departing from Glasgow Central (approx 2345 hours) arriving London Euston at around 0700 hours). 2. Argyll and Loch Lomond from Glasgow (by car and ferry ) Option 1 From Glasgow take the M8 motorway west towards Glasgow Airport (Paisley). Then cross the Eskine bridge over the Clyde river and head up the A82 passing Dumbarton and then along the banks of Loch Lomond as far as Tarbet.From Tarbet head out toward Campbeltown on the A83, passing the little village of Arrochar and up and over the rest and be thankfull pass. Approx 5 miles further on from here, look for the left turning to Dunoon A815. (If Loch Fyne is then on your right hand side your on the right road, if it is on the left you need to turn back) Keep following the A815 through St Catherines, Strachur, Loch Eck, Dunoon and finally Innellan (approx 45 minutes drive from the A815 Dunoon turning) Sea View Cottage is within a group of 3 small cottages located on the left hand side coming in from Dunoon 1/4 mile past the Osborne Hotel. (approx 105 minutes minutes journey time) Option 2 via the ferry Sea Front Appartment is more easily reached in just over an hour from Glasgow using the M8 motorway or train west to Gourock, thence either by the frequent Western Ferries from McInroy's Point (Gourock) OR by the hourly Caledonian-MacBrayne ferries direct to Dunoon Pier. The crossing takes about 20 minutes, and Western Ferries operate a frequent service until 22:30 with a midnight ferry at the weekends. The Cal-Mac ferries leave Gourock hourly at 20 minutes past each hour. On arrival at Dunnon off one of these ferries, access Sea Front Appartment in your car within 10 minutes, by simply following the A815 South along the coast out of Dunoon towards Innellan, Sea Front Appartment is annexed to Rock View Villa located on the right hand side coming in from Dunoon 200 metres before the Osborne Hotel.
