A beautiful Luxury detached bungalow just 80 yards from the seashore with private beach access located in the quiet crofting community of Melvaig, near Gairloch. Offering a chance to see the Northern Lights during the Autumn and Winter months along with stunning sunsets, views of Skye, Harris and Lewis. The Beinn Eighe Reserve and the Torridon Mountains are just a short distance away from the numerous sandy beaches and bays which are located around Melvaig, Gairloch and Red Point. The advantage of this cottages remote location and the absence of street lamps presents regular sightings of the Northern lights "Aurora Borealis". With good timing you have a good chance of experiencing one of the world's most magnificent natural phenomena: the Northern Lights. The Northern night sky dancing with red, yellow, green, blue and violet streamers, arcs and rays. The best time to see the Northern lights is in the months of October, November, December and January between 10 pm and 3 am. If you don't see the Northern Lights, then at least you'll see the stars - many, many more than you'll see from anywhere less remote. The longer you look up, the more stars will appear!
Melvaig and Gairloch
The local village Melvaig has a cafe bar / restaurant. The area's attractions include: a swimming pool, whale watching and marine trips, including visits to the puffin colonies on the Shiant islands, salmon, sea trout, brown trout, pike and sea fishing, Bird watching, falconry courses golf course and pony trekking. Wester Ross and Ross-shire Wildlife
Apart from the beautiful surroundings and the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights. The Warm Gulf Stream waters make for a temperate climate which attracts plentiful wildlife, including seabirds, otters and whales which feast on the seasonal bounty of the sea. The loch is circled to the south by the dramatic Torridon Mountains including the 3300ft high Beinn Alligin and Slioch (3215ft), one of Scotland's finest mountains. Inverness is the nearest city to Big Sand and Gairloch and is approximately 90 minutes drive away. Activities and other things to do
If you fancy Island hopping on a much larger scale....you can take one of the ferries with Caledonian Macbrayne from Ullapool over to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, on Wednesdays and Fridays from June to August and join a coach tour at Stornoway taking you to the Callanish standing stones, Carloway Broch and Arnol Black House. You then get time in Stornoway and leave at 7pm and reach Ullapool at approximately 9.40pm. You can also take a boat trip to the enchanting Summer Isles and see seals and porpoises or marvel at the botanist's miracle of Hydroponics in Achiltibuie. This area is blessed with majestic mountains, some of the most beautiful unspoilt scenery in the world, undiscovered beaches, forests, hidden glens with stags grazing, waterfalls, bird sanctuaries to explore, breathtaking twisty single track roads, all caressed by the gulf stream which gives us tropical gardens and comparably mild weather. The next nearest town with amenities is Gairloch (10 miles) with a small supermarket, Filling station, , Post Office, Restaurants and Inns. A popular tourist destination in the summer months, Gairloch also boasts a golf course, a small museum, several hotels, a community centre, a leisure centre with sports facilities and a local radio station. There is also the village of Badacro a remote fishing village 3 km south of Gairloch. Sitting on the shore of Gair Loch, it is considered one of the best natural harbours in the United Kingdom. It has a small restaurant and a Pub The Badachro Inn on the south shore of Loch Gairloch, in the shelter of Badachro Bay. Approximately 2 miles to the SE are located the Fairy Lochs which are accessible by a rough track near the Shieldaig Lodge Hotel. Places and facilities well worth visiting in this region are The Seaview gardens (20 miles) The highland wildlife reserve, Inverewe gardens. Fishing permits are available locally. The Luxury detached holiday home enjoys full double glazing, ground floor accommodation throughout with LPG central heating with additional effect 'woodburner' style electric fire in the main living area. The Comfortable sitting room is beautifully furnished in an L shaped lounge format leading to dining room with picture windows giving magnificent views over the sea and Skye, Harris and Lewis. The room is complemented with and electric fire, two large settees, Sky Freeview satellite colour TV, DVD, radio/cassette/CD player. Payphone in the lounge.
The double bedroom has 2 bedside cabinets and lamps and has ample hanging and drawer space. The twin bedroom has 1 bedside cabinet and lamp, walk in wardrobe and ample drawer space. The bedrooms have lovely lovely views
The fully fitted modern kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer, washer, tumble dryer, toaster, food mixer etc. plus a good range of cooking utensils. Rear porch with hanging space for outdoor clothes etc. Other essentials such as glasses, crockery, cutlery and a corkscrew are also provided for your convenience.

A retainer of £50.00 per week is required to cover additional Heating and Electricity costs All the heating and electricity is metered and the amount will be deducted from your retainer. The metre will be read on arrival and departure.
