Journey by train or plane to Dumfries and Galloway

 

Is the long drive from the south the only issue holding you back from a holiday in the Dumfries and Galloway region of Scotland?

There are many exiting and interesting travel options, should you really want to avoid the long drive from the South.

 

Option 1 - by Rail

Carlisle, Dumfries and Lockerbie are served by direct Anglo / Scottish train services.

There are regular services operated by Virgin, First Scotrail from London Euston, Bristol, and the West Country calling at intermediate stations via, Birmingham, Leeds, Crewe.

Option 2 - by Plane

 

Prestwick International Airport is approx 1 hours drive from the cottage and takes regular service flights from the following....Ryanair Tel 0871 246 0000 operate to/from Bournemouth, Frankfurt, London Stansted, Dublin, Paris and Stockholm. Car Hire and the roads in Dumfries and Galloway

 

The roads are a pleasure to drive on, wide and well maintained with fantastic views. The cottage is situated on a side lane near the centre of Thornhill. Thornhill is situated on the A76, 15 miles from Dumfries and 45 miles south of Kilmarnock. From the South, take junction 22 from the M74, travel the A75 to Dumfries bye-pass. The A76 is the an exit from the fourth roundabout, sign posted, Kilmarnock.From the North, take junction 14 from the M74, travel the A702 through Elvanfoot to Carronbridge (approx. 20 miles), turn left onto the A76, Thornhill is 2 miles south. Drummond Court Cottage is on the East Back Lane, off the Main Drumlanrig street, the junction is between the Post Office and the Cross.
