Journey by train or plane to Argyll and Loch Lomond Is the long journey from the south the only issue holding you back from a holiday in Argyll and Loch Lomond region? If this is the case there are many interesting travel options, should you really want to avoid the long drive from the South.
Rail Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations are served by direct Anglo / Scottish train services. 1. There are regular (almost every hour) day trains between London Euston and Glasgow Central between 0700 and 1800 hours (4/5 hours approx journey time) Also....a daily direct sleeper service operated by Scotrail from London Euston departing (approx 2345 hours) calling at intermediate stations via Watford, Birmingham, Crewe. Preston delivering you "bright and breezy" in Glasgow Central at (approx 0715 hours) and a corresponding return service departing from Glasgow Central (approx 2340 hours) arriving London Euston at (approx 0700 hours).

Argyll and Loch Lomond from Glasgow (by car and ferry ) Option 1 From Glasgow take the M8 motorway west towards Glasgow Airport (Paisley). Then cross the Eskine toll bridge over the Clyde river and head up the A82 passing Dumbarton and then along the banks of Loch Lomond as far as Tarbet. From Tarbet head out toward Campbeltown on the A83, passing the little village of Arrochar and up and over the rest and be thankfull pass. Approx 5 miles further on from here, look for the left turning to Dunoon A815. (If Loch Fyne is then on your right hand side your on the right road, if it is on the left you need to turn back) Keep following the A815 through St Catherines to Strachur (by Loch Fyne) At Strachur take the right turning A886 (signposted Colintraive) Approx 1/4 mile from this point Creagh Dubh is located on the left hand side of this single track road facing Loch Fyne. (approx 75 minutes minutes journey time)
Option 2 via the ferry Glasgow take the M8 motorway west to Gourock then choose from the following ferries.. Caledonian Macbrayne and Western Ferries connect Dunoon and the Cowal peninsula with the Ayrshire coastline from 2 ports in Gourock, both ferries run every hour...western ferries operate 24 hours per day. Both ferry crossings are approx 30 minutes, inexpensive and very pleasurable. On arrival at Dunnon off one of these ferries, access Creagh Dubh in your car within 25 minutes, by simply following the A815 North out of Dunoon, passing Pucks Glen, the Benmore Botanic Gardens, then along side Loch Eck passing the Coylet Inn arriving at the small Loch side village of Strachur. At Strachur take the right turning A886 (signposted Colintraive) Approx 1/4 mile from this point Creagh Dubh is located on the left hand side of this single track road facing Loch Fyne.
